They realize that someone on the outside wanted Al dead, so they contracted the hit. They have identified Andre Gomez as the one who stabbed Al, but they think he stabbed Al because he was told to do so by someone outside the prison. The team heads back to the district to further investigate their case. Voight tells him he should get off the case if he doesn't believe him. Antonio confronts Voight and tells him that this isn't what Al would want. Voight opens the door and tells Antonio that he was just interrogating the prisoner, but he tried to attack him, so Voight was just protecting himself. After hearing the brutal beating, Antonio decides to call it quits and asks one of the guards to unlock the door, but Adam stops him and reminds him that the man inside killed Al. Voight starts brutally beating him inside while Adam and Antonio watch guard outside. He asks Andre to tell him why he killed Al, but Andre instead tells him to kiss his ass. Voight arrests Andre and brings him into a storage closet to talk. After some push, he reveals their suspect's name, Andre Valesco. He finally cracks and tells Voight that he was just told to look away for a few seconds while Al was beaten. They also reviewed his financials and saw that someone had deposited $5,000 into his checking account an hour before the attack. They tell him that they checked his phone and that he had no phone calls during that time. Voight and Antonio go talk to Dietz, and he denies everything. Looking at another angle, the video shows Dietz walking away and pretending to have a phone call when he was just a lookout, meaning he was in on the stabbing. The video shows Dietz and Al walking towards his cell, then Dietz leaving him to take a phone call. Using that information, the team goes through the prison surveillance video. He finally cracks and tells them that the person responsible for Al's death was Latino. Voight loses his temper and chokes Gibson. Kevin and Voight interrogate Gibson, but he doesn't cooperate at first and says that Al deserved what he got. He didn't see the man as he got a phone call and had to walk away, but he assumed the person responsible was the cellmate that threatened to kill Al and his wife, Ross Gibson. Dan Dietz, the friendly guard from Al's time in prison, tells Voight that he was escorting Al to his cell after dinner when someone attacked him. Adam tells Voight that there was a guard who was with Al moments before he was stabbed. Jay tells the team that the weapon was a comb that was sharpened into a knife. As the team set up their make-shift office, they go through any information regarding the cellmates who had a vendetta against Al. Voight heads over to the prison and demands to get an office at the prison so that he and his team can find the person that killed Al. Voight tells him that Al is dead, and Osha tells him he had no choice, but Voight is still furious. As Voight leaves the hospital, he is stopped by James Osha, asking how Al is. Voight tells the team that they need to focus on finding the person that did this to Al first, and then they can mourn his death. The team is deeply saddened to hear that their teammate and close friend just died. Shocked to hear this, he heads down to the waiting room and tells the team the news, Halstead and Atwater leaving the room while Antonio leans against the glass wall, Upton sits down on a chair, stunned while Voight and Ruzek comfort Burgess and Trudy respectively, the two groups embracing one another. After a while of waiting, Voight asks one of the doctors how Al is doing, and they tell him that Al didn't make it. At the hospital, Voight arrives just in time to see Al being rushed into surgery. As soon as Osha arrives, he begins recording their conversation regarding Kevin's death, but Voight gets a call regarding Al and rushes to the hospital. Denny agrees to these terms and calls James Osha to discuss the details. If he confesses to killing Kevin Bingham, all charges against Alvin will be dropped. Meanwhile, Voight is at Woods' place to negotiate a deal. Alvin is stabbed, and the EMTs are bringing him to the hospital. The episode starts right where Allegiance left off. Meanwhile, Antonio's loyalty is put to the test and Woods looks to take down Voight once and for all.
